StoryBook Theater’s musicals are 55-mins and for ages 3-10. Based on familiar fairy tales, each show focuses on a life lesson and has a happy ending. With catchy songs and clever stories, StoryBook Theater shows are fun for the whole family. Learn more about us HERE.

About our Sensory-Friendly shows

Our sensory-friendly performances are specifically designed for individuals with autism, neurodiversity, Asperger syndrome, Down syndrome and other sensory processing disorders and special needs.

Have you passed up family theater because your child has different sensory needs? No more! StoryBook Theater, in partnership with Safeco Insurance Fund, is working to make theater accessible for children with developmental challenges and special needs.

In our sensory-friendly performances, we leave the house lights up a few levels higher than for a standard production, reduce the sound level, as well as offer a comfortable, judgment-free theater experience. Friendly, supportive staff and community volunteers minimize stress and offer whatever help is needed to facilitate your theater experience.

What to expect at the shows

A social story is a pictorial guide with simple language explaining what a child can expect when they come to the theater.

Get Involved

StoryBook Theater is always looking for ushers! Ushers arrive early for the show they are working, tear tickets and hand out programs – and, of course, smile and welcome people to the theater! After the start of the show, ushers get to see the show for free! Children can help usher, too, if they are accompanied by a responsible adult. If you want to be an usher please contact Cassie Fitzgerald.

Another way to help out? Donate Now to support StoryBook Theater. We are part of Studio East Training for the Performing Arts and can always use donations to our scholarship fund.

The most important way to help, though, is to tell your friends, neighbors, relatives, and even strangers about StoryBook Theater so that we can continue to grow our audiences of tomorrow! Thank you for your support.
